One of the newer kids on the block FetLife is like Facebook for kinksters. Described as a social utility it is free to users, but you must become a member to use the site. It allows members to join clubs of people with common interests or create their own if that is preferred, so there is potentially something for everybody under the sun. You can make friends with likeminded people, keep in touch with your kinky friends, find out what is happening in your area and maintain a profile about your interests.
Things we liked
· Fairly easy to use
· People are friendly
· Looks good
· Its free
· It makes it very easy to find out what is going on in your area
· People cannot go and edit out a post thereby leaving entire conversations impossible to follow
Things we were less happy about
· Like face book it makes it very easy to keep tabs on people
· Complete strangers can leave comments about your pictures
· Because it is for every kink there is little for M/s specifically
· You have to join a group to post on a thread
· If you have a friend who is a posting slut/attention whore you are bombarded with everything they have posted when you log in
· The downside of the no edit is that you are stuck with your grammar mistakes and typos
· When people are disgruntled they can start a group to complain about another group/member specifically to explain their side
While FetLife is a good way to meet people, it does have a downside. If you are new to BDSM and more particularly M/s there are plenty of friendly, helpful people to give you advice, but how do you sort out the good from the fantasists. This is a major problem with any online board and at the end of the day, however many online friends you have, sometimes you have to exercise common sense and good judgment.
