In the beginning there was a message board that formed around the notion that M/s could be done 24/7 and a refuge was created. It was a place where you did not have to constantly explain that “yes you can live this 24/7”. A place where the idea was a starting point for interesting conversations with likeminded individuals, who were interested in branches of psychology and theories that grew from them. It was not busy, but it was intellectual.
Slowly the place grew and became the Slave Register, where you could register and receive a personal number that was yours alone. If you changed your owner, you could change your details to reflect this. Some people took a great deal of pride in their numbers and had them tattooed on their person. The boards were used by people who were often well educated, thoughtful and capable of holding a well mannered debate.
TSR prospered and grew larger with every passing day. Over time more people joined that were often more strident in their one twue wayism and more often the debates got bogged down in the definition of terms, despite them being clearly defined. Still the board grew and changed. Being a largely unmoderated site (it had never needed them in the past) debates grew more contentious.
Seeing what was going on, the owner decided that part of the problem was conflict between those who lived 24/7 and those OLR so he opened the doors wider and encompassed their needs with boards of their own. Meanwhile his circumstances had changed from M/s to D/s so the focus was changed to incorporate this and the M/s became a subsection of 24/7. He changed the name and one morning SD! was born.
So where are we now? is probably a question on the lips of many. The insightful, intelligent and lively debate is more strident, aggressive and illiterate than it once was and many of the members who gave it the character and flavor have left or become silent. It still grows with every passing day, but it is not the haven for 24/7 M/s that it was. Which is a great shame, but we are sure very few have noticed or will admit that bigger is not necessarily better.
